On a day exploring around Marrickville and surrounding area, we ended up in a little cafe in Dulwich Hill, Cafe Dal’or. The cafe has a warm atmosphere, and we decided to go through to the courtyard out the back seeing it was a lovely day.

The coffee smelt good walking through the restaurant, so I ordered a long black coffee. I usually only order black coffee when there is a chance that the coffee is well brewed, otherwise I’ll just have a cappuccino. The beans were Grinders, not my favourite, but given that, the coffee came with a good crema.

On a weekend you can order breakfast items until 2pm, so we had the choice of ordering from the breakfast or lunch menus. For breakfast you can order things like eggs served multiple ways, bircher muesli, pancakes, or banana bread. On the lunch menu, there are sandwiches, salads and a few pasta dishes.

My companion ordered a salad with haloumi, roast pumpkin, beetroot, cashews and a citrus dressing.

They were generous with the roasted cashews and other ingredients on top of the lettuce. The haloumi was just melted, not with the almost crispy exterior as it’s sometimes served, but that went well with the rest of the ingredients.

And I ordered the Caesar Salad with grilled chicken.

For me, too, the Caesar Salad had abundant toppings on the lettuce. The chicken was tender, sliced finely. The egg component of the salad was a perfectly poached egg.

The anchovies in the salad were in the dressing, not whole as sometimes served. That meant the saltiness was there in every mouthful, providing lots of zing. Loved it.

So, all in all, tasty food, with generous serves, in a relaxed atmosphere. The staff were friendly. I can imagine that if I lived nearby I’d wander in to the cafe regularly for brunch.
